Fairfax EggBank Egg Donor Requirements Help Hopeful Parents Build Their Families

Being an egg donor takes a very special person. Not only do you have to be a healthy person between ages 19-30 (give or take a year on either side depending on the program), and meet specific requirements that are set by the Food and Drug Administration, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, individual states, and finally the IVF clinics that are working with donor egg recipients – you also have to be emotionally prepared for the commitment you are making, as well as able to dedicate the time to the egg donor process.

BECOME AN EGG DONOR

What It Takes To Be An Egg Donor at Fairfax EggBank

There are medical requirements to be an egg donor that are standardized through industry regulatory bodies. Each donor egg program must meet those requirements as a minimum.

At Fairfax EggBank our donors are required to provide information about:

  • General health: Weight requirements, smoking history, drug use.
  • Reproductive health: Regular and normal cycles, pregnancy status, breastfeeding status.
  • Availability: Able to commit to the program for 5 months minimum.
  • Education: Must be a high school graduate or have a GED equivalent
  • Family history: Three generations of medical information
  • Willingness to self-administer injectable medications

At Fairfax EggBank, our donors go through a rigorous screening process. This ensures that they are suitable, and that they are prepared both mentally and emotionally to donate their eggs.

Remember What The Donation Is For

When it comes to applying to be an egg donor, very few applicants make it through the first hurdle. That is never a judgment on the individual as a person, but a reflection of the hope for success for the recipient. When someone is choosing to use donor egg IVF, it is often after a very long and painful road of infertility struggles. IVF treatments that involve using donor eggs can be a difficult decision. Many feel as though their bodies have failed them. In order to help these families, it is incredibly important that donor egg programs are thorough in their process and establish standards for donors that help the recipients meet their goal of starting a family.

Donors are selected for their health, and often they are selected for how closely they resemble a member of the family. At Fairfax EggBank, we believe all families deserve a chance to have a baby. We welcome donors from all races and backgrounds.  are selected to provide families with characteristics that reflect their own unique families.

If It’s A Donation, Why Are Donors Paid?

Donors are reimbursed for their time and effort. Being an egg donor is more complex than being a sperm donor. It requires more involvement on the part of the donor: time to visit the clinic, learning how to administer self-injections for hormones, setting aside time to do the retrieval, and while brief, time to recover. The commitment on the part of an egg donor is significant, and we believe the donor should be reimbursed for the time dedicated to the process.

Reimbursements are provided to donors based on their location. We comply with all of the regulatory, state and international requirements as required. While other donor programs may vary in the amounts they provide, it is important for a donor to know that their time and effort is valued.
