Embryologist- Fairfax, VA

Fairfax EggBank (FEB), a division of the Genetics & IVF Institute, is seeking a full-time Embryologist as we expand to support the growing demand for frozen donor eggs. As the leader in advanced techniques for oocyte vitrification, cryostorage, and embryology, FEB is the premier choice for frozen donor eggs. We serve IVF clinics and labs around the world. Our caring and dedicated staff work collaboratively to ensure all our clinic partners can provide their patients with compassionate care, state-of-the-art technology, and outstanding customer service. The FEB Donor Database is one of the largest and most diverse repositories in the world for rigorously screened, FDA compliant frozen egg donors.

Fairfax EggBank embryologists have the opportunity to step out of the routine of a traditional embryology role. The available position will be a full-time, on-site role at our Fairfax, Virginia headquarters. The embryologist will serve as an expert in all scientific areas of our business, including embryology, oocyte vitrification, oocyte warming, regulatory affairs, and specimen handling during the shipping process.  Reporting directly to the FEB Scientific Director, the embryologist will have the opportunity and responsibility to assist partner clinics with troubleshooting, to perform oocyte vitrification and warming in-house, and to help maintain the quality of our product. The role will be primarily administrative, with roughly 20% of effort being dedicated to hands-on technical work, and 80% being dedicated to customer interaction, data management, and troubleshooting. The requirement to work on weekends and holidays will be exceedingly rare in this role, and work will be during normal business hours.

The embryologist will work closely with the Associate Scientific Director and, if desired, may have the opportunity to travel to provide hands-on training and troubleshooting in our partner clinics.  The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to talk through technically complex lab issues over phone, email, or videoconferencing.  We expect that the newest addition to the team will share in our goal to remain at the forefront of the donor gamete industry through exceptional outcomes and customer service.

Qualifications of a successful candidate will include:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant basic or clinical laboratory science. (Candidates with a Master’s level of education and/or certification as a technical supervisor (ABB) will have an advantage in the screening process)
  • A minimum of 4 years hands-on experience in all aspects of clinical embryology and cryopreservation.
  • A proven record of exceptional clinical results in egg freezing as well as embryo culture and manipulation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to address sensitive issues internally and externally for the needs of the business.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in training lab staff, both novice and experienced.
  • Skilled in Quality Assurance, Quality Control measures.
  • Comfortable with computer-based data management.
